My first appearance on a Fringe World stage was not at my show My Argentina: Learning Spanish and Loving Thatcher.
A year earlier, a frumpy red-headed singer called Susan Higgins pulled me out of the audience to perform a liturgical dance with her.
Miss Higgins is a recurring (and determined) character, played by the funny and naughty Robert Hofmann. He’s taken Desperately Young at Heart to the Edinburgh Fringe. It’s back in a revamped version (and I’m expecting to see one or two vamps) at the Dress Circle Bar of His Majesty’s Theatre, on 25, 27 and 28 January.
Robert is a generous artist. He gave me several pointers when I was starting out in Fringe. And he can sing!
